TINA TURNER
…Better Than All The Rest

Born in Tennessee in 1939 as Anna Mae Bullock, she was picking cotton at an early age. When her parents divorced, her mother moved the family to St. Louis, Missouri, where she met Ike Turner, who took her control of her life. She married Ike, and he renamed her Tina Turner.

Ike & Tina Turner became famous through hits like River Deep, Mountain High and Proud Mary. Unfortunately, Ike was an abusive and domineering man, and it led to Tina attempting suicide in 1968. It took all her strength to get out from under him, and the divorce was finalized in 1978.

Initially her solo career went nowhere. But in 1984 she released the Private Dancer album, with now-classic songs like Let’s Stay Together, and the number 1 hit, What’s Love Got To Do With It. The success of the album brought her back on top and made her a global superstar. She continued her success with We Don’t Need Another Hero (1985) from the movie Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, and The Best (1989).

Although she continued touring, she did not record any music after 2000. She also decided to move permanently to Europe and eventually became a Swiss citizen, where she lived with her second husband, Erwin Bach. She officially retired in 2009 and after several illnesses, passed away in 2023. She left behind a legacy of a voice and an energy unsurpassed by any other artist.
