Diana Ross: Reflections

Coming from humble beginnings in the motor-city Detroit, Michigan, Diana and two girlfriends, Flo Ballard and Mary Wilson, formed The Supremes. Motown founder Berry Gordy took them under his wing, and created unforgettable music history with songs like Where Did Our Love Go, Stop! In the Name of Love, and Some Day We’ll Be Together. But Diana was never meant to be just one of a trio, so after a decade and 12 number one hits, she set out on a solo career in 1970.

The first decade of her career saw musical highlights with number one hits like Ain’t No Mountain High Enoughand Do You Know Where You’re Going To. But she also proved herself to be an accomplished actress, garnering an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Billie Holiday in Lady Sings the Blues.

Finding more self-confidence and business acumen, she left Berry Gordy and Motown behind to continue with a string of hit albums in the 1980s. She had much more control of her own career path and proved to be a superstar with staying power.

Now, over 80 years old and having been in the business for more than 60 years, we look back at this amazing woman’s life and career. She has faced ups and downs, personal triumphs and heartaches, with determination and passion through it all, which has established her as the ultimate diva.
