This week signals the 1-YEAR ANNIVERSARY of our book Villa Mizner: the house that changed Palm Beach. It has sold very well over this past year, and has generated some great speaking opportunities for René in Cape Code, North Carolina, Palm Beach and Key West. Of course we will continue our journey and want to thank everyone who purchased a book and/or has come to hear René speak.
Classic Book Store sold out of the book, so we restocked them last week. Visit the store on South County Road and get a copy (they are signed!).
René will present his lecture on the life and work of Addison Mizner at the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach this Thursday, February 26 at 2 PM. After the presentation René will be available for questions and sign books that will be for sale in the lobby. 20% of the proceeds of books sold at this event will be donated to the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach.
The Old Bags Luncheon at the Breakers is next week, March 5th. Preparations are being made with the lovely Janet Levy for the 550 books to be donated to the distinguished guests. In light of the event and its benefactor, the Center for Family Services, I want to highlight another program this organization offers.
Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) is an instructional home-based program designed to help parents learn how to teach their three, four and five-year old children to succeed in school. Parents are empowered to be their children’s first teachers and create an educational environment in the home that promotes literacy. Parents are given tools, skills and confidence they need to teach their children at home. HIPPY is a proven alternative to universal pre-kindergarten and an excellent source for school readiness.
We are honored to be involved with such a wonderful event and worthy cause.
