Palm Beach\u2019s story began with Henry Morrison Flagler, who dreamed that an uninhabited barrier island could become a playground for the rich and famous. Architects like Addison Mizner, whose Mediterranean Revival style has become synonymous with South Florida architecture; Maurice Fatio, who added a fresh look to architecture during his short life, laid the groundwork for some iconic clubs, hotels, and residences; and John Volk, who created the Royal Poinciana Plaza and Playhouse where the Royal Poinciana Hotel once stood.<\/strong><\/h4><h4>The presentation describes the work of the most influential architects and their differing design styles.<\/h4><h4 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>As the past Chairman of the Palm Beach Landmarks Preservation Commission, Ren\u00e9 will explore the ups and downs of the island\u2019s historic structures, some of which have been lost, others altered, and luckily many restored and saved. Besides presenting famous landmarks, like the Breakers Hotel, and the Flagler Museum, he will include details of the recent inflow of high-net-worth individuals, eager to buy and restore historic structures.
